Electrical Licensing Information

Please be aware that every individual performing electrical work in the State of Iowa must hold a license, including helpers and apprentices.   

The Iowa Electrical Examining Board may deny issuing an electrical license to individuals convicted of a forcible felony. 

702.11 Forcible felony. 1. A “forcible felony” is any felonious child endangerment, assault, murder, sexual abuse, kidnapping, robbery, human trafficking, arson in the first degree, or burglary in the first degree. 2. Notwithstanding subsection 1, the following offenses are not forcible felonies: a. Willful injury in violation of section 708.4, subsection 2. b. Sexual abuse in the third degree committed between spouses. c. Sexual abuse in violation of section 709.4, subsection 1, paragraph “b”, subparagraph (3), subparagraph division (d). d. Sexual exploitation by a counselor, therapist, or school employee in violation of section 709.15. e. Child endangerment subject to penalty under section 726.6, subsection 6. f. Assault in violation of section 708.2, subsection 4. g. Domestic abuse assault in violation of section 708.2A, subsection 5. h. Removal of an officer’s communication or control device in violation of section 708.12, subsection 3, paragraph “f”. Application Request Form: The request form sheet provides you with all the information you need regarding the documentation that is required to begin the application process.  It also informs you of the basic qualification requirements for our program and the specific areas of jurisdiction. A copy of the request form can be downloaded, by area and program.

Inside - Telecommunications - Residential For all areas, requirements are: $25 application fee Must be 17 or older (18 at start of program) Be a graduate from high school or have a G.E.D. Must have passed one year of high school algebra or one semester of college algebra. All required documents are due thirty days after the application is received.

Inside Wireman While the Outside Lineman works on the distribution network, bringing power from sources of generation to the customers, the Inside Wireman's job is to distribute and connect the customer's electrical equipment to that power source. The Inside Wireman installs and maintains all of the various types of electrical systems found in commercial and industrial facilities.
